Evergreen Quilters is an organization of people who like to quilt, appreciate quilts both old and new, and enjoy the company of other quilters. We promote quilting through workshops, chapter activities, educational programs, and community activities. Quilters of all skill levels are welcome. We invite you to join us!
Evergreen Quilters is a chapter of Pine Tree Quilters Guild, Inc.
Community Service Projects
Meals on Wheels:
We make 300 placemats to be given to Meals on Wheels recipients.
Every year, we make 300 placemats that are distributed to Meals on Wheels recipients in York County. We gather the placemats throughout the year and deliver them to the Southern Maine Agency on Aging in October. Meals on Wheels distributes them at Thanksgiving time.
Placemats should be at least 12 inches by 18 inches. Any color and pattern is acceptable, but please do not use holiday or seasonal fabrics. There are many men as well as women who enjoy these gifts, so fabrics appropriate to menfolk are always appreciated. This is a great way to use up extra blocks or try a new pattern!
Caring Unlimited
We make tote bags and provide personal care products for their clients. We donate tote bags, pillowcases, and personal care items to Caring Unlimited, which is York County’s largest shelter for battered women. Gift cards for essentials, socks, towels, and mittens are other items that are greatly appreciated. We concentrate on the women because we know there are other agencies that provide for the children. The women really enjoy the tote bags and pillowcases because each is unique, just like its recipient!
Veterans Quilts
Each year, the members identify three or four veterans who have served our country and present them with a patriotic quilt. These lovely quilts contain blocks made by many members, so each is unique and a work of art. No two are ever alike!
Blocks can be any pattern as long as it contains only red, white, and blue. These are “potholder” blocks so each should be finished with batting and a backing, quilted, and bound. The required finished size is 12- 1/2 inches square (twelve and one-half inches on each side).
Wrap-A-Smile
We make quilts for children around the world.
